February 2016.  I was 34 years old, married, no kids and eating like I was still 20. I was 180lbs of fat. Out of shape and still pretending that I wasnt.  I was still telling myself my metabolism had slowed, I wasn't a high school athelete anymore, that's just how it goes. You get older, start a career, marry, and try to hit the gym before bathing suit season.  I basically had become complacent with who I was.  I was in for a big surprise.  I was 6 months post surgery at an appointment when they diagnosed me with Type 2 Diabetes.  My world was turned upside down.  How could this be? I dont even have diabetes in my family.  Plus, I love to eat and have a huge sweet tooth!  Why was this happening to me?  Probably eating like crap hadn't helped.  I went through every type of emotion possible over the next 3 months.  I then stopped questioning God on why it happened.  I decided if He wanted me to go through it, then I was gonna have to trust Him and learn to process it.  I couldn't change my past, but I could do something with my present.  Then ... I found crossfit.  Crossfit started for me as a way just to workout.  I was awful at workout planning in a regular gym. At crossfit, I just had to come in and someone told me what to do.  1 hour later, workout done.  At first it was uncomfortable, I was nervous, wondering why I was doing this to myself.  This was hard.  Even the modified workouts were hard for me. However,  I was surrounded by all types of people, atheletes, moms, grandmas, business folks, nurses, teachers.  Just regular people, trying to be better.  I figured if they can do it, so can I.   No matter what level they were at or  what level I was at, we were able to workout together and push each other.  Crossfit started out as a way to lose weight.  And somewhere during that process, I fell in love with it .   It became "my thing".   I realized I could keep pushing, I could keep working hard and I actually could improve and grow as an athelete.  I hadn't been an athelete in 16 years. Fast forward 2 years. Im 36 years old , 140lbs and about to compete in my first crossfit competetion.  I can do things at 36 that I couldn't do when I was 18!   Yes... I still am type 2 diabetic.  Although,  no one ever believes me now. They always say " you dont look like you should have diabetes "  My doctors are amazed with my change.  Crossfit has helped me learn commintment, dedication and determination.  At Crossfit  Mephobia, they have become my family. They see potiential in every person that walks in the door and they are dedicated to helping you reach your goals.  I have to trust God in all things, even the things that seem challenging.  Don't let your circumstances define you.  You define your circumstances.  "The first step to getting somewhere, is to decide you are not going to stay where you are. "   I can do all things through Christ -  Philippians 4:13
